Funeral services for Leona B. Dykes, 83, of Zavalla will be held Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Dr. Linwood Dykes officiating. Interment will follow in the Tom Havard Cemetery.
Mrs. Dykes was born November 2, 1928 in Zavalla, Texas to the late Albert and Naomi (Higginbotham) Benton, and died Thursday, June 21, 2012 at her residence. She was a lifetime resident of Zavalla and worked for Keller Window Co. in Woodville for 17 years. Mrs. Dykes was a member of the Zavalla chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and had been a member of the Saron Baptist Church most of her life.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Marzellia and Bobby Dameron of Houston and Bonnie and Bill Cravy of Zavalla; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Barbara Dykes of Zavalla; daughter-in-law, Alline Dykes of Buna; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Opal Cravy of Silsbee; brother-in-law, Dr. Linwood Dykes of Nacogdoches; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dykes was preceded in death by her husband, Joe J. Dykes; son, Tommy Joe Dykes, Sr.; five brothers; and two sisters.
Pallbearers will be Mark Rhodes, Billy Joe Cravy, Tommy Joe Dykes, Jr., Jason Dykes, Will Dykes and Cassey Richards.
Honorary pallbearer will be Pete Burgess.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home in Huntington.
