Vernon Atwood

Memorial services for Vernon Jackson Atwood, 75, of Zavalla, will be held Friday, November 23, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Brother Jackson Colwell and Pastor Joel Hitchcock officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Mr. Atwood was born February 16, 1937 in the Concord Community, Angelina County, Texas to Jackson Green and Ida Ophelia (Graham) Atwood, and went to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, November 13, 2012. Mr. Atwood was a lifetime resident of Zavalla and had been in the logging industry for 50 years. Mr. Atwood was a member of the Solid Rock Baptist Church for the past 8 years.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Nadine Atwood of Zavalla and her granddaughter and great-grandsons, Rhonda, Dennis and Derrick Womack of Rusk; daughters and their families, Gwenda (Jerry) and Ryan Hamilton of Tyler and Sherri (David) Haines and Hannah (Brandon), Tyler, Bree, Andrew, and Bailee White of Lufkin; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne (Judy) Atwood and their family of Zavalla and sister, Evie Bryan of Silsbee.

Vernon will be dearly missed by all his family, friends, and neighbors whom he loved and cherished. The family would like to especially thank those caregivers who have shown great compassion and care during his stay at Woodland Heights Hospital as well as Memorial Specialty Care Unit.
