Stanley Peterson Benckenstein Ii

Funeral services for Stanley Peterson Benckenstein, II, 67, of Lufkin will be held Friday, May 19, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Lufkin with Dr. Keith Whitaker and Reverend Laura Campbell officiating.  Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mr. Benckenstein was born October 26, 1949 in Orange, Texas to the late Clare (Helbing) and Charles H. Benckenstein, Jr. and died Sunday, May 14, 2017 in a local hospital.

Mr. Benckenstein graduated from Beaumont High School in 1968 and Stephen F. Austin State University in 1973. He worked for Grace, Helena, and Occidental Chemical Companies until opening a Manpower Franchise in 1987. He sold the franchise in 1999 and owned Story Wright Office Supplies for two years. In 2001, he opened the Spherion Staffing franchise.

Mr. Benckenstein was a past president and an active long-time member of the Lufkin Rotary Club; a member of the Lufkin/Angelina Chamber of Commerce, a member of the chambers of commerce in all locations where he operated Spherion offices, including Lufkin, Nacogdoches, Jacksonville, San Angelo, Amarillo, and Lubbock.

Mr. Benckenstein was a founder of the Pineywoods Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM); a member of the Concho Valley SHRM (San Angelo); and served as a member of the Board of the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council of Deep East Texas (ADAC). Mr. Benckenstein was also an active member of the Lufkin First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Janet (Winger) Benckenstein of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Sammy Spencer of Forney, Shannon and John Baker of Crawford, and Amanda and Bradley Hudson of Dallas; grandchildren, Clayton Baker, Wesley Webster, Ryan Baker, Shelby Spencer, Morgan Webster, Ben Baker, and Henry Hudson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Steve and Claire Benckenstein and Fred and Donatella Benckenstein, all of Houston; sister, Margaret Benckenstein of Beaumont; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clare and C.H. Benckenstein, Jr.; daughter, Christi Yancey; and parents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. H.P. Winger.

Pallbearers will be Clayton Baker, Wesley Webster, Ryan Baker, Shelby Spencer, Ben Baker, Alistair Benckenstein, Steve Benckenstein, and Will Pettus.

Honorary pallbearer will be Henry Hudson.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Carroway Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Lufkin - Henderson Chapel Remodel Fund, 805 E. Denman Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75901.
