James Richard Nelson

Memorial services for James Richard Nelson, 59, of Baytown, formerly of Alto, will be held Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Curtis White officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Mr. Nelson was born November 19, 1961 in Livingston, Texas, and died Saturday, February 6, 2021 surrounded by family. He had resided in Baytown for the past year and a half. Mr. Nelson worked as a lab tech at CHI St. Luke’s Health Memorial for about 40 years where he met many people who became lifelong friends.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, James Brock and Julie Nelson of Baytown; daughter and son-in-law, Victoria Lauren and Michael Wingwood of Baytown; parents, Charlotte Ray (Harris) and James Walter Nelson; brothers and sister-in-law, John Nelson of Liberty and Joseph and Charla Nelson of Livingston; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Kathy Nelson; cousin, Kim Robertson; and grandmother, Leona Nelson.

One of James’ biggest accomplishments was being a grandfather (Pa) to his four grandchildren: Brookelin, Breydon, McKenzie, and Peyton. He was known for his love of family. James enjoyed any chance to get together with friends and family. He was often the life of the party and his laugh was contagious to everyone he met.

The way he passed is just like how he lived: he wrote his own rules, he fought authority, and he paved his own way. If you said he couldn’t do it, he would make sure he could.
