George Frank Fowler Jr., (known to family as Frankie), 65, passed away January 21, 2021 after an exciting and colorful life. He was born an Air Force Brat on November 28, 1955 in Caribou, Maine. Throughout his adventurous life, George lived in Germany, Newfoundland, and several states within the United States. George went on to proudly and honorably serve his country in the U.S. Army as a Medical Specialist and finally made Lufkin, Texas his home. George was a proud husband, father, grandfather, brother, nephew, cousin and a devoted Christian.
Growing up, George was a star athlete and played football at Spring Valley High School in Columbia, SC. Later, he attended the University of South Carolina and studied Accounting & Finance at Our Lady of the Lake University. Ever the sports lover, he was a huge “Game Cock” fan as those who knew him can attest.
Upon settling in Lufkin, TX, George quickly made it his happy home. George was a member of Trinity Baptist Church for the past 21 years and served in various capacities. With his melodious voice, he sang in the choir, worked in the Youth department, taught Sunday School and served on the finance committee, pastor search committee and the security team.
George found his professional home at the Pineywoods Community Academy for 16 ½ years, where he served as the Chief Financial Officer. His dedication to the success of the school and its students was always on display.
George was also a long-time member of Lumberjack H.O.G. He and Betty both served as officers, George as Assistant Director and Betty as Treasurer, and together, they made a great team. George also served as a Road Captain for many years in the chapter. He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, especially with the group. One of his favorite rides to lead was to Natchitoches, LA. He loved his H.O.G. family and they loved him.
George will be remembered for his servant’s heart, extraordinary singing voice, his deep love for his family, his passion for motorcycles (Harleys of course), his exemplary military service, his commitment to his church, and his strong faith in God.
George is preceded in death by his mother, Polly L. Fowler, his father, George Frank Fowler Sr., and his sister Julia C. Foiles. George is survived by his two sons, Jason Fowler and Nicolas Fowler and wife Ashley, his loving wife, Betty Fowler, step-daughter Megan Stephens, step-son Bronson Glover, and step-daughter Shey Fudge. George is also survived by his sisters; Wanda Mason and husband Ray, Ester Beale and husband Gene Williams; and brother Robert Dale Fowler; and other extended family members. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, a cause near and dear to George.
