Bobby Gene Stanbery, Sr.

Funeral services for Bobby Gene Stanbery, Sr., 88, of Lufkin will be held Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Steve Cowart officiating. Interment will follow in the Whitehouse Cemetery.

Mr. Stanbery was born April 25, 1932 in Van Zandt County, Texas to the late Mildred (Curry) and James Albert Stanbery, and died Friday, March 12, 2021 in a local hospital.

Mr. Stanbery proudly served his country in the United States Navy earning a National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal (3 stars), Good Conduct Medal and China Service Medal. After more than 25 years he retired from Temple Associates as a Project Supervisor. He was a longtime member of the VFW, served as a School Board member for Huntington ISD, and volunteered at the Elliott House for four years. He attended Trinity Baptist Church. Mr. Stanbery was a very loving husband, father and grandfather who was dedicated to his family. He enjoyed all things outdoors, including hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife and soulmate of 25 years, Joyce Stanbery of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Melanie and P.D. Nerren of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and April Stanbery of Lufkin; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Stanbery of Pollok; stepdaughter, Sheryl Cherry of Lufkin; grandchildren, Lyndsi Clark, Brittany Brewer, Reagan Nerren, Carson Nerren, Bobby Stanbery III, Calynn Stanbery, Carson Frankens, Kelley Childers, and Clint Childers; a number of great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and longtime friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife and the mother of his children, Mildred “Millie” Renfro Stanbery in 1988; son, Gene Stanbery in 2004; stepson, Andrew Walker in 2005; and siblings, S.B., A.J., Odis, Opal, Lovy, Manell, and Betty.

Pallbearers will be John Ellis, Patrick McClain, Ross McClain, Mike Stanbery, Carson Nerren, Bobby Gene Stanbery III, and Carson Frankens.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
