Mary Lou Standley

Memorial services for Mary Louvenia Miller Standley, 67, of Lufkin will be held Friday, August 11, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Max Reynolds officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Mrs. Standley was born December 24, 1949 in Tyler, Texas to the late Louvenia (Baxter) and Inlow Lee Miller, Jr., and died Saturday, August 5, 2017 in Houston after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

Mrs. Standley had resided in Lufkin most of her life, moving to Lufkin as a child when her parents opened Miller Shoe Store in 1956. She graduated from Lufkin High School in 1968, attended Texas Tech University and Angelina College where she earned her RN nursing degree. Mary Lou was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her greatest joys in life were spending time with her loved ones and serving innumerable patients in her thirty-five-year nursing career. She enjoyed caring for patients and cherished the friendship of her nursing colleagues at Lufkin State School and in the emergency room, surgery, ICU, and cardiac rehabilitation at Memorial and Woodland Heights Hospitals. Mary Lou enjoyed movies, playing cards, and having coffee with friends. Her wry sense of humor was endearing to all those she encountered. She was of the Episcopal faith.

Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Danny Standley; daughter, Shanna Standley Hetherwick and husband Brett; son, Scott Standley; grandchildren, Harper Lynn Standley, Miller Hudson Hetherwick, and Claire Amelia Hetherwick.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Tom Miller; mother-in-law, Alice McBride Standley; and father-in-law, A. O. Standley.
