Joel K. Kitchens

Funeral services for Joel K. Kitchens, 29, of Pollok, will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jacob Fitzgerald and Pastor John Boone officiating. Interment will follow in the Kitchen Cemetery.

Joel was born August 27, 1984 in Lufkin, Texas, and died Saturday, April 19, 2014 in Austin due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Joel had lived in Austin for the past two years and worked as a tech for Applied Materials. He served his country in the United States Navy, where he graduated at the top of his class at the Nuclear Power Propulsion Center. He also received the highest score in Chemistry ever at Angelina College. Joel was a member of Harmony Hill Baptist Church.

He is survived by his father, Danny Kitchens, Sr. of Willow Springs, Missouri; mother and stepfather, Sarah and Elwin Derryberry of Burke; brothers and sister-in-law, Danny, Jr. and Theresa Kitchens of Alvin, Terry Davis of Kenedy, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, Jana and Chris Voros of Huntsville; grandfather, Paul Roberson of Arkadelphia, Arkansas; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and other relatives.

Pallbearers will be Benton Russell, Erin Dillon, Rachel Benetiz, Sam Ray, Chad Claiborne, and Mitchell Lee.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Fleming and Johnny Perry.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
