Funeral services for Dr. D.H. Brashear, 91, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Gary Forrest and Brother Roy Hall officiating. Interment will follow in the Rocky Springs/Old Center Cemetery.
Dr. Brashear was born June 12, 1924 in Angelina County, Texas to the late R.C. and Missie (Hubbard) Brashear, and died Wednesday, April 13, 2016 in Corrigan. He resided in Lufkin most of his life.
Dr. Brashear served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a pilot in the Pacific and was commissioned as one of the youngest Navy pilots at the age of 19. Dr. Brashear was a General Practitioner and Psychiatrist, practicing for 55 years. He was a very practical man, taking care of patients in a time when doctors still made house calls. Those who knew him always reflect on how kind he was, and that he was a man of integrity. Dr. Brashear always enjoyed going to the lake and farm with his wife and children. He was a member of Parkview Baptist Church.
Survivors include his daughter, Barbara Anne Brashear Davis and husband Jack of Lufkin; sons, Richard Dale Brashear and wife Elke of Corrigan, Michael Jay Brashear and wife Karen of Tyler, and Daniel Keith Brashear and wife Nancy of Bullard; grandchildren, Jason Todd Davis, Erin Elizabeth Davis Hudson, Katherine Marie Brashear Burton, John Austin Brashear, Ryon Clarke Brashear, Kaitlin Amber Brashear, and Lauren Shelby Brashear; great-grandchildren, Justin Taylor Robbins, Makayla Cheyenne Burton, Charles Jackson Hudson, Joseph Bruce Davis, Davis Peyton Hudson, and Jocelyn Anne Davis; sisters, Claudette Marie Brashear Beaird and Dorris Jean Brashear Collmorgen; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 66 years, Agnes Barbara (Tuinstra) Brashear in 2012; son, Steven Paul Brashear; and sister, Jennie Brashear Caton.
Pallbearers will be Justin Robbins, Jason Davis, John Brashear, Ryon Brashear, Randall Beaird, Richard Collmorgen, David Collmorgen, and Joseph Collmorgen.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904, or a charity of your choice.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
