Funeral services for Johnnie Lee Carroll, 91, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Linley Ham officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the Boswell Cemetery near Huntsville.

Mr. Carroll was born August 23, 1923 in Huntsville, Texas, the son of the late Minnie (Laskie) and Lee Carroll. He passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2014 in a local hospital.

Mr. Carroll loved fishing, dominos, family and “fixing” things. He greeted everyone with a smile and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He had a true servant’s heart and was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He retired from Lufkin Industries after 31 years of service in the maintenance department. Mr. Carroll was of the Baptist faith, being a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Barbara Carroll; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and David Schultz; granddaughters and husbands, Kim and Steve Carter, Rhonda and Ricky Proffer, Denise and Reuben Roberts, Dede and Rodney McCarty, Katrina and Brent Barnes, Ashley Schultz and Diana and Cliff Williams; grandsons and wives, James Wayne and Tonya Carroll, Steve and Kim Irvin, and Richard and Kim Irvin; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James Estill and Marian Holiday.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Edna Mae Carroll; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Lucille Carroll; sisters and brothers-in-law, Anne and Cliff Cauthen and Sue and John Kay; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Beatrice “Peaches” and John Wirty Bartee; brothers-in-law, Author Lee Holiday and Billy Joe Holiday; and grandson, Brian Irvin.

Pallbearers will be Brent Barnes, Albert Bartee, Donald Bartee, Lee Carroll, Ray Carroll and Rodney McCarty.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Boswell Cemetery Association, 708 Hardy Bottom Road, Huntsville, Texas 77340.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
