Mattie Rachel Thornton Kane

Funeral services for Mattie Rachel Thornton Kane, 76, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Bruce Thornton officiating. Interment will follow in the Sand Flat Cemetery.

Mrs. Kane was born April 29, 1938 in Shreveport, Louisiana to William Penton and LaBanda Mae (Welch) Thornton, and died Saturday, June 7, 2014 at her residence.

Mrs. Kane had resided in Lufkin for 46 years and was a scrub tech at Woodland Heights Hospital for 30 years. She loved gardening, fishing, flowers and birds. Mrs. Kane was a member of Denman Avenue Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Herbert and Felicia Guidry of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Larry Farr of Central; stepson, Kenneth Kane; stepdaughter, Adeline Daniels; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Diana Howell of Shepherd and Mary Lynn Mantooth of Tyler; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bernard Kane; and daughter, Shawn Carlisle.

Pallbearers will be Larry Farr, Justin Farr, Chris Thornton, Aaron Guidry and Herbert Guidry.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
