Leamon Roy Russell

Leamon Roy Russell was born on September 19, 1946 to Dee and Arlene (Anderson) Russell in Angelina County, Texas. He left this life on Monday, December 5, 2011 at his home near Lufkin, Texas.

Leamon lived in Huntington, Texas during his childhood years and attended Huntington public schools. He was a member of Huntington First Baptist Church. Most of his time was spent in the woods, hunting and fishing. He loved a good joke and a good laugh.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam conflict stationed on an aircraft carrier. After his service, he attended Stephen F. Austin University and graduated with a degree in AgriBusiness.

Leamon worked for RiteWay/Paxon Air Conditioning and Sheet Metal. After leaving Paxon's, he pursued his interests in agriculture. His hobbies were wood working and reading.

Leamon was preceded in death by his parents, Dee and Arlene Russell of Huntington, Texas and his wife's parents, C.E. and Ilena McBurnette of Hideaway, Texas. He was also preceded in death by a nephew, Melvin Lee Taylor, Jr., a nephew-in-law, Randy White, and a brother-in-law, Michael McBurnette.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Elaine McBurnette Russell of Lufkin, Texas. He is survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Melvin Taylor of Huntington, Texas and Syble and William Mangrum of Lufkin, Texas, and a brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Johnnie Russell of Perrin, Texas. Survivors also include a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Pat and Shush McBurnette of Roswell, Georgia. He is survived by a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 West Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904, to honor the care they gave to his father, Dee Russell.

A visitation is planned for 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, December 9, 2011 at Carroway Funeral Home in Lufkin, Texas. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held for the family at a later date.
