A memorial will be held Sunday, June 17, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church in La Porte, Texas.

Elaine Bonner passed away Sunday, June 10, 2012. She was a resident of the Huntington Rehabilitation Center in Huntington, Texas.

Elaine was born March 5, 1935 in Huntington, Texas to Ivy and Faye (York) Lovett. She grew up in Huntington and graduated from Huntington High School.

On February 5, 1954, she married Paul Robert Bonner from Huntington, who was active duty Navy at the time and traveled with him throughout the country while he pursued his careers. They settled in La Porte in 1964 to finish raising their children.

Elaine was active in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and the La Porte Police Reserve. She was involved in Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She served her community on several boards and was part of the town's disaster preparedness team for Harris County. She was instrumental in bringing about the Sylvan Beach Parade for more years than can be remembered.

She was a stay at home mom until her children reached high school. She then joined the La Porte Police department as a dispatcher and worked her way up to Administrative Assistant to the Chief of Police. She was with LPPD for 22 years.

After retirement, Elaine became involved with a local women's shelter and spent time helping where she could.

She is survived by three children, Paul Robert Bonner, Jr. of Montgomery, Texas, Jonathan Glenn Bonner of Seabrook, Texas and Mikhael Severin Yowe of Williamstown, Vermont; five grandchildren, Taunya Marie (Bonner) Dawson of Austin, Texas, Michelle Avon of Chicago, Illinois, Chelsea (Bonner) McAllister of La Porte, Mackenzie Ann Bonner and Logan Fredrick Bonner, both of Montgomery; three great- grandchildren, Brittanie, Adonis and Isabella Dawson; brothers and sisters, James Lovett and his wife Beverly, Charles Lovett and his wife Clara, Jerald Lovett, Marjorie Clark, all of Huntington, Delores Elliott and her husband Jack of Alabama, and Judy Alexander and her husband Jim of Lufkin; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Robert Bonner, Sr.; parents, Ivy and Faye Lovett; youngest sister, Jennifer Ann Randall; and granddaughter, Shylo Autumn Yowe.

Very special friends of Elaine are Betty Ann Scroggins and the late Peggy Merle Boone (childhood friends and partners in mischief). Since the fourth grade, they walked through life, be it marriage (same year) or first child (same year), they stuck together no matter the distance in miles. Also Lou Lawler (mentor, motivator and confidant). They began a reluctant friendship that grew in strength and depth through the years.

Pallbearers will be Steve Clark, Jeremy Holder, Troy Lovett, Kerry Lovett, Ted Lovett, Charles Ray Lovett, Joe Fancher and Michael Lovett.

For those who wish to send flowers, the family asks that they be living flowers, as Elaine believed that it was not appropriate to send people flowers that could not be enjoyed after the fact. Instead of flowers, a donation to any women's shelter or homeless shelter would be wonderful as this was one of her last endeavors.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home in Huntington.
