Dr. Gary Keith Halbrook

Funeral services for Dr. Gary Keith Halbrook, 76, of Lufkin will be held Friday, April 10, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Stephen Parks and Dr. Ralph Wood officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Mabank, Texas with Dr. Ralph Wood officiating. Dr. Halbrook was born August 3, 1938 in Dallas, Texas to Andrew Jackson Halbrook and Annie Inez (Dowdle) Halbrook, and died Tuesday, April 7, 2015 in Lufkin. Dr. Halbrook had resided in Lufkin for twenty-nine years and was a former resident of Illinois for thirteen years. Gary’s life radiated a strong love for the Lord. He pastored churches in both Texas and Illinois. He was a pastoral counselor, specializing in marriage and family therapy. He was a member of Lufkin’s First Baptist Church where he taught Adult Sunday School and small group Bible study. He also enjoyed writing and was a published author in various Christian publications. Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Zelma Louise (Murphey) Halbrook of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Tere Halbrook of Spring; daughter and son-in-law, Carrie Ann and Scott Berry of Pearland; 5 grandsons and 1 granddaughter, Carson Berry, Justin Berry, Sam Berry, Will Berry, David Halbrook and Diana Halbrook; brother and sister-in-law, Danny Halbrook and Maggie of Webster; sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda Preston and Bill of Houston, Lana Cox and Danny of Ivanhoe; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Homer Murphey and Marcy of Colleyville; sister-in-law, Marie Frazee of Amarillo; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Telford, Burl Richardson, David Hutson, Rodney Brazil, Darin Simpson and Bob Little. Memorial contributions may be made to Lufkin’s First Baptist Church Mission Fund, 106 East Bremond Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75901.
